Warner Southern College Course Description

FAS 1010 COLLAGE

Definition: The aesthetic act of pasting objects and papers to a surface.

Assignment: Using techniques learned in this course, create and articulate a collage that reflects a cultural tradition within the specific context of Warner Southern College.

Techniques and Materials: The pieces in this display demonstrate the use of photographic images and transfers, water color, permanent inks, metallic pigments, a variety of papers and fibers, and a series of gel mediums.

Some students have embraced the freedom that collage techniques encourage. In the collage tradition, images are seldom left in an original state. Images are torn, manipulated, multiplied, combined, rearranged, or superimposed. The list goes on and on. Some students even put a Warner twist on secular iconic styles.

Cultural Tradition and Context: The context of the culture of Warner Southern College is for many of the students an intensely personal and spiritual experience. For others, collage is a time of friendship through which cherished memories are formed.
