Communication is a difficult concept to put into words. Communication, in general terms, is the process by which information is created and transmitted. It is the process of acting on information. In practical terms, it is the channel that carries messages from a source to one or more receivers. In theoretical terms, communication is a transaction in which people collectively create and manage social realities. And if considered from a cultural point of view, communication is a civilization's means of informing and persuading its members. Regardless of the definition or perspective, the study of communication involves audience, function, technique and technology as common denominators.
This program is designed to help students identify and develop the particular niche that best suits their needs and to explore a variety of avenues that will help with career preparation. Students develop sound theoretical bases as a foundation for the skills they develop in writing, production, technology, and the application of presentation skills. The goal is to help students become effective communicators, something sorely needed in this world today. A minor in another subject area is required.
