The program is limited to students in their senior year. Students wishing to graduate with Honors in Biology must qualify for the program with an overall GPA of 3.25 at the end of their junior year. They need to maintain this GPA during their senior year to remain in the program. Qualified biology majors must apply for the program during their junior year. Admission to the Honors Program is by Department approval only.
The Honors Program in Biology requires at least two semesters of independent research (BSC 4090 Honors Research). Only 3 credit hours of BSC 4090 can be applied to the Biology major. The Honors Program requires a written research proposal and thesis, and an oral defense of the research work before a faculty committee. The Program requires a serious time commitment and interested students are urged to discuss the time issue with their advisors prior to applying for the Program.
