Lady Royals defeated by Classic host Brewton Parker 85-67

The Brewton Parker Barons jumped to a 12 point half time lead and made it stand in an 85-67 win over Warner Southern at home on Saturday. The Lady Royals (0-2) cut the lead to 10 on several occasions but could get no closer in dropping their second descision of the season. Brewton Parker (2-0) won their opener the day before 101-31.

The Lady Royals used outstanding shooting from outside (5-13 from three) and  at the line (20-24) to keep it close but struggled inside (21-57) which kept them from taking the lead in the second half. "As a team we have to improve inside the arc. You cant make enough three's to make up for missing two's", stated Warner Head Coach Rick Brewer. "I am still not sure we know a lot about this years team because we are still playing without Kendall Heath and Nakita Prince", he continued.

Last years first team all-conference Kendall Heath is still fighting an ankle sprain though she did play a productive ten minutes on Saturday and Nakita Prince, a transfer from Florida Southern, wont be eligible until Saturday at Bethune-Cookman.

Junior Ronke Allen parlayed an 11-13 performance at the line into a game high 23 points and added five assists and five steals as freshman Beebe Soberal also reached double figures with 17 points. Beebe's  fellow freshmen Monique Tolbert and Lauren Brewer each scored eight points as Brewer added a team high nine rebounds.

"If things go well this week we should be near full strength by Saturday when we travel to Bethune and then we have to see if we have improvement in crucial areas", Brewer concluded. One of those crucial areas would be turnovers where the team is averaging 27 and two point field goals where the team is shooting just 35%. The Lady Royals return to action Saturday at Bethune Cookman in Daytona.
