Men’s JV golf team finished in 5th place and Ashley Miller finished 38th at Saint Leo Fall Invitational

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Warner Southern College men’s golf team finished in 5th place at the Saint Leo Fall Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 23.

The Royals shot 1021 on the par 72 South Course at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club to finish the 54-hole tournament in 5th place. Tournament host Saint Leo University won the event with an 895 score.

Maurice Forde finished as the Royals leader in 26th place with a 252 (85-88-79). Justen Copeland quickly followed landing in the 27th place with a 253 (85-84-84), Allan Johnson finished 28th with a 271 (91-82-98) and Leonardo Placios finished 29th with a 280 (87-93-100). First day Royals leader Erik Taylor withdrew from the final round.

Ashley Miller, the lone representative from the women’s golf team held her own against some strong competition as the majority of the competition were members from NCAA D-II teams. Miller finished 38th in the individual competition with a 270 (87-86-97), the individual medallist was Florida Tech’s Daniela Iacobelli. 

The men’s golf team will wrap up its fall schedule at the Mobile Fall Classic Nov.2-4 in Mobile, Ala.

Royals men golf team in fifth place and Ashley Miller in 35th place At Saint Leo Fall Invitational

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Warner Southern College men’s golf team stands in fifth place after the opening 36 holes of the Saint Leo Fall Invitational on Monday, October 22.

The Royals shot a team score of 660 (331-329) on the par-72 South Course at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club. Invitational host Saint Leo University currently leads the pack shooting a 591.

Erik Taylor continues to improve this fall season as he is leading the Royals with a first day score of 149 (74-75), which has him tied for ninth place in the individual competition. Justen Copeland is in 27th place with a score of 169 (85-84) and both Alan Johnson (91-82) and Maurice Forde (85-88) scored a 173 to tie for 28th place. Leonardo Placios rounded out the Royals group with a 180 (87-93) to land in 30th place.

Ashley Miller is the lone representative for the women’s golf team at the event and she is in 35th place in the individual competition with a score of 173 (87-86).  Daniela Iacobelli from Florida Tech leads all golfers in the individual competition.

The 54-hole tournament concludes today, October 23, with tee times for the women at 7:30 a.m. and the men at 11:30 a.m

Royals Placed Third Coker College Intercollegiate Golf Tournament

HARTSVILLE, SC – The Warner Southern golf team placed third at the Coker College Intercollegiate Golf Tournament with a score of 586 (+10) on Tuesday, October 16, this is the Royals second best finish this the University of South Carolina Golf "B" Team took home their second straight Coker College Intercollegiate Golf Tournament Championship, as they defeated Coker College by 15 strokes, with a two day total of 567 (-9). Coker finished with a score of 582 (+6).

The Royals shot a 296 on the first day and managed to shave six points off their score to score a 290 on the second day. Matthew Alwin led the way for Royals finishing tied for sixth shooting a two day total of 143 (-1), Alwin improved his score by five strokes over the two days, shooting a 74 the first day and 69 the second. Erik Taylor was only one stroke behind Alwin, shooting a 144 (E) to land him tied for eight place. Michael Kartrude shot a 145(+1) to tie Sam Aiden from fellow FSC school Edward Waters College for 11th place. Preston Knox tied for 44th place with a score of 154(+10), and Richard Huetter closed it out with a score of 170 (+26) to land tied for 93rd place.

The Royals return to action at the Saint Leo University Fall Invitational held in Saint Leo, Fla. on Oct. 22-23.

Warner Southern in eight place at Fire Classic after first round

Lakeland, Fla. – The Warner Southern golf team finished the first round of the Southeastern Fire Classic in eight place with a first round score of 340 on Monday, Oct. 1. Tournament host Southeastern University currently leads all teams with a score of 297, two strokes ahead of Webber International.

Maurice Forde leads all Royals with a first round score of 80, Alan Johnson shot a 82, Seth Courtney, Justen Copeland both shot a 89, and Drew Meir rounds out the Royals squad with a 95.

The Royals tee off its final round on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Warner Southern finished 9th at Wayne State University’s Motor City Invitational

Detroit, Mich. – The Warner Southern golf team finished in ninth place at the Motor City Invitational with a combined score of 611, invitational host Wayne State won the tournament with a combined score of 576.

The Royals scored a 304 in the first round and a 307 in the second round. The Royals faced adversity during the event; the first round was extended from Sunday to Monday due to the darkness and the second round was delayed because of rain. Despite the adversities, the Royals fared well against some very stiff competion, the event was made up of eight NCAA Division II schools.

Matthew Alwin led all Royals golfers with a total score of 150 (74-76) which placed him tied for 23rd place.  Michael Kartrude finished tied for 30th place with a 152 (75-77), Erik Taylor shot a 159 (78-75) to finish tied for 39th place, Preston Knox shot a 156 (77-79) to finish tied for 47th place and Dustin Young withdrew in the first round but shot an 82 in the second round.

The Royals also has golf team members competing in the Southeastern Fire Classic at the Bridgewater Golf Course, they began play on Monday, October 1.

Men’s golf team placed seventh in the 14th Annual Grenlefe Invitational

HAINES CITY, Fla. – The Royals completed the event with a total score of 913 to place them in seventh place in the 54-hole event hosted by Webber International University.  Webber fielded three teams with their varsity team winning the two-day event.

Erik Taylor led the Royals with a total score of 220 that landed him in 4th place overall, and on the All-Tournament Team; this marks the second Royals’ golfer to make an All-Tournament team in the fall season, Michael Karturde made the tournament team at the Wilmington Island Club Collegiate earlier this month.  Kartrude continued to play well finishing in the top 20 for the event, he finished tied for 17th place with a total score of 227.  Matthew Alwin finished tied for 30th place with a total score of 232, Preston Knox finished tied for 47th place with a total score of 239 and Justen Copeland closed out the Royals’ golfers finishing in the 61st place with a total score of 253.

Some of the teams the Royals finished ahead of included NCAA Division II University of Tampa and FSC teams St. Thomas University and Edward Waters College.  The Royals’ next completion will be in the Motor City Invitational on September 30 – October 2 in Detroit, Mich.

Men’s golf team finished tied for second place at Wilmington Island Club Intercollegiate

Savannah, Ga. – The Royals completed the event with a total score of 589 to land them tied for 2nd place in the two-day event hosted by Savannah College of Art and Design. The Royals did a great job to catapult themselves four spots from the sixth spot.  The Royals tied Thomas University for 2nd place and was the highest placed Florida Sun Conference team in the tournament.

Freshman Michael Kartrude continued to lead the team on the second day by improving his score by four to have a second day score of 67, a total tournament score of 138. Michael’s score of 138 tied him with Berry College’s Samuel del Val for second in the individual scores, which also lead to Michael named to the All-Intercollegiate Team.   Mathew Alwin also finished the tournament strong finishing in 18th place with a total score of 148; he also improved on his first round score by four.  Preston Knox followed in his teammates footsteps by improving on his first round score as well. At the end of the first day Preston was the fifth finisher for the Royals team with a score of 77 and tied for 40th but by the end of the tournament, he improved his score by two to have a total score of 152 and he improved his placing six spots to be tied for 34th place. Erik Taylor maintained his score of 76 over the two days to also finish with a total score of 152 and to be tied for 34th place. Richard Huetter had a day two score of 77 to finish with a total score of 155 and tied in 47th place.

The Royals golf team will return to action on September 14 when it hosts the Warner Southern Christian Invitational.

Men's golf team in 6th place after first round at Wilmington Island Club Intercollegiate


Savannah, Ga. – The Royals ended the first day with a total score of 299 to land them in sixth place in the event hosted by conference competitor Savannah College of Art and Design.  

The team was led by freshman Michael Kartrude who shot a 71 which placed him in the top five in the individual scores; he is tied for fourth place at the end of the round.  Matthew Alwin, Erik Taylor and Richard Huetter each shot a 76 to tie for 32nd place. Preston Knox was the fifth finisher for Warner Southern, scoring a 77 and tied for 40th place.

The 36-hole event ends Tuesday, September 11, 2007

 

Michael Kartrude sets record in Warner Southern’s first Qualifier.

Lake Wales, Fla - On August 16th-17th, Warner Southern College hosted its first Warner Southern Qualifier. Leading the Royals was Michael Kartrude; his record-breaking performance gave him medalist honors.  His first round 71 followed by a second round 68 yielded him three school records: (1) Low Round – 68, (2) Low par--3 (Also shared by Erik Taylor), and (3) Low 2 Rounds 139. Mike was followed by Spenser Baldwin – 149 and Preston Knox 151. See Results below

The Royals next event will be the Warner Cup match play event held August 22-28.
