02.04.07 Men's Volleyball Royals Split with Mt. Olive
BANNER ELK, N.C. - The men's volleyball team faced Mt. Olive College in a double=header and split losing the first match in five game (27-30, 24-30, 30-24, 30-27, 10-15. But the Royals regrouped and won the second match of the day in five games 25-30, 30-25, 32-34, 30-22, 15-13. The men's volleyball team is now 5-3 on the season. They will take a break for the rest of the month until they travel to Park University for a tournament, March 1-4.
Leaders for all four games this weekend were Shedrick Forbes (49 kills, 11 digs, 6 blocks), John Grotowski (40 kills, 5 aces, 26 digs, 3 blocks), Matt Gizzi (50 kills, 21 digs), and Sergio Rios (28 kills, 10 blocks). Tom Amenita had 29 digs and Chris Guerra tallied up 172 assists with 15 kills, 3 aces, 22 digs and 5 blocks.
01.27.07 Men's Volleyball Royals 2-2 at Lindenwood Tourny
ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Warner Southern College men's volleyball team traveled to Lindenwood University to open their season and came back 2-2 with a vicotry over No. 6 ranked, Cardinal Stritch.
The Royals faced No. 2, Lindenwood University but lost in three straight (27-30, 21-30, 23-30); they bounced back with wins over Moody Bible (30-26, 30-21, 30-20) and No. 6 Cardinal Stritch (30-28, 28-30, 30-19, 30-27). The team ended the last game of the tournament facing No. 5 Missouri Baptist; the Royals lost in three (21-30, 26-30, 23-30).
Leading the Royals was All-Tournament winner Shedrick Forbes (59 kills, 8 aces, 22 digs and 4 blcoks). Freshman John Growtowski had a great weekend as he adde din 38 kills, 7 aces, 18 digs and 2 blocks; and Sergio Rios hammered out 34 kills and 5 blocks. Chris Guerra had a combined 176 assists and 17 digs in 13 games.
The Royals hit the road once again as they head to Virgina to take on Eastern Mennonite and then to Lees McRae and Mt. Olive in North Carolina this weekend.
