Women's National Indoor Track and Field Qualifiers 2007
Warner Southern Womens Track and Field Team has qualified two athletes to represent them at the 2007 NAIA National Indoor track and Field Tournament. Melissa Darr in the 400m and Chelsie James in the Shot Put.
"Even with our facility setback, I am astonded
at the level of talent that we have recruitied in the past five years," Larios remarked. "Actually, if by some miracle we were to have our own track facility on campus, that would make things perfect."
"There is no doubt that we have been very blessed to have grown by leaps and bounds over the past five years," Larios said.
But, growing is an understatement. In only its short five year span, the Warner Southern Track & Field program has accomplished some tremendous feats:
*One World University Games representative- Evelyn Rojas
*Two National Individual Championships- Anabell Montes
*Two National Individual Champion Runner-ups- Terrance Johnson and Fackson Nkandu
*19 All-American individual accolades
*One 13th Final National Cross Country Ranking- Men's (2003)
*Four consecutive NAIA Region XIV Men's Cross Country titles (2001-04)
*Four consecutive Florida Sun Conference titles (2001-04)
*Three consecutive NAIA Region XIV Women's Cross Country titles (2002-04)
*Three consecutive Florida Sun Conference titles (2001-04)
*One Men's and Women's NAIA Region XIV/ Florida Sun Conference T&F Championship
"I have been asked many times how we do it," Larios said. "I believe it boils down to the three pillars of Warner Southern: Faith, Scholarship and Servanthood."
"Ultimately, our student athletes believe in our institution. All students don't find WSC to be perfect, as I assume is the case at any college, but I believe the majority of them truly enjoy being a WSC Runnin' Royal. Success breeds more success."
Larios credit not only his dedicated athletes, but Warner Southerns administration and athletic department support.
"We can only be as successful as our administration allows us to be," Larios said. "And I can't say enough about the knowledge and dedication of my assistants coach Gonzalez, Reaves and Johnston and our new addition Wade Taylor. It just keeps getting better. This year's recruiting class may end up being the best overall class we have signed, with a dozen or more possibly being announced later this month."
With the coaching staff's decision to direct their attention to a more balance track program versus a middle-distance centered program, the Royal's future certainly continues to look bright.
