WSC’s Volleyball sweep Florida Memorial on Senior Day


Lake Wales, Fla. – In the last home game of the season the Royals swept the Florida Memorial Lions 3-0 (30-17, 30-11, 30-20) to improve their record to 9-14 and 5-9 in the conference.


Six seniors were honored in their final home game at the Turner Athletic Center, Shannon Sterner (co-captain) Nikisha Arrington (co-captain), Megan Phillips, Keisha Bagwell, Catie Bentley and Krystle Steele.


The Royals’ offense attacked the Lions early in all three games never allowing the Lions to find their rhythm. Arrington, the FSC hitting percentage leader led the attack registering 10 kills and Steele followed tallying seven kills. Bagwell, Sterner and Bentley played great defense as they registered nine, seven and three digs respectively with only three receiving errors between the three of the them for the entire match. Phillips registered a match leading 29 assists match.


The Royals return to action when they travel to West Palm Beach for the NAIA Region XIV Championship hosted by Northwood University on Nov. 15.

Lady Royals Defeated by Lady Bobcats


LAKE WALES, Fla
– The Royals fell three straight games (22-30, 16-30, 19-30) to the Bobcats on Friday, November 02, 2007. The loss drops the Royals conference record to 4-9 and an overall record of 8-14.

Nikisha Arrington led the kill category totaling 7 on the night. Precious Reese had 6 kills, Dayna Sechrest had 5, and Ashley Lange had 4. Shannon Sterner totaled 8 digs on the night.

Four Lady Royals scored an ace in the conference match-up, Sechrest, Lange, Shellie Barnwell, and Krystal Steele. Senior Setter Megan Phillips ended the night with 26 assists.  

The Lady Royals final game of the 2007 season is at home on Saturday, November 3, 2007.  This final game is Florida Sun Conference opponent Florida Memorial University; the match is slated for a 1 p.m. start.

Warner Southern women’s volleyball fall to Madonna University (Mich.)

Lake Wales, Fla. – Warner Southern women’s volleyball team was defeated by 11 time Woverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season champs Madonna University (Mich.) in three straight games (24-30, 21-30, 25-30) today, Nov.1 to drop their overall record to 8-12.

The Royals were not intimidated by the WHAC champions, playing them tough throughout the match, even leading the Crusaders in game three 22-20 before Madonna rallied back to take the game 30-25.    

Seniors Krystle Steele and Nikisha Arrington led the team with 10 and 9 kills respectively. Senior setter Megan Phillips posted 39 assists and senior libero tallied 20 digs.

The Royals return to action tomorrow, Nov. 2 to face St. Thomas University at home at 7 p.m.

Royals rally to defeat Southeastern University


LAKELAND, Fla. – After losing the first game to Southeastern University the Royals won three straight games to defeat Southeastern 3-1 (19-30, 30-26, 30-20, 30-23) to improve their record to 8-12 and to split the season series with the Fire 1-1.


Freshman Precious Reese continued to have a solid first year as she led the team with 15 kills and senior co-captain Nikisha Arrington followed with 14 kills of her own and three solo blocks to lead the team. Senior Megan Phillips accumulated 47 assists during the four game match and senior co-captain Shannon Sterner led the team with 14 digs.


The Royals return to action on Thursday, Nov. 1 to face Madonna University (Mich.) at home at 5 p.m., in their first of three games in a row.

Royals defeated by Northwood Seahawks

Lake Wales, Fla.—Warner Southern women’s volleyball team suffered a tough loss to the Northwood Seahawks in five games (30-25, 27-30, 26-30, 30-25, 11-15) to drop their record to 7-12 and 4-8 in the FSC.


The Royals started the game on the right note winning the first game by five points, but the Seahawks bounced back to win the following two games. With the chance of losing the game, the Royals were able fight off the Seahawks and win game four. In the deciding game, the Royals found themselves up 8-4, but the Seahawks were able to storm back and take the game 15-11

.
Senior co-captain Nikisha Arrington led the Royals with 17 kills and Krystle Steele followed with 16 kills of her own. Senior setter Megan Phillips and Shellie Barnwell each added three service aces. Phillips also tallied 41 assists. Senior co-captain Shannon Sterner led the team with 20 digs and Shellie Barnwell added nine.


Rebecka Ohman led the Seahawks with 18 kills and Alyssa Breviario led the team with 49 assists.


The Royals return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 30 as they travel to face county rival Southeastern University at 7 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla.

Warriors defeat Royals in three

LAKE WALES, Fla.- The women’s volleyball team lost Tuesday, October 23, 2007 against Webber International University in 3 games (23-30, 31-33, 30-32).

Despite having two very close finishes in the last two games, the Royals could not seem to get past the Warriors. The Royals even held a 31-30 lead over their opponent in the second game of the night.

“We needed our seniors to step-up and make a big play. Unfortunately we didn’t get those plays to go our way tonight,” said head volleyball coach Kevin Crawford.

Precious Reese led the kill category for the Royals knocking down 9 followed by Dayna Seacrest at 7. Seacrest also led the team in service aces totaling 5 on the night.

Megan Phillips contributed 30 assists on the night. Defensively, Krystal Steele blocked 10 and Nikisha Arrington blocked 2. Shannon Sterner and Shellie Barnwell each had 10 digs.

The Royals next game is another conference match-up. This time they square-off against Northwood University in Lake Wales on Friday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m.

Warner Southern’s Women Volleyball team extends winning streak

Lake Wales, Fla. – In a nail-biting game the Warner Southern Women’s Volleyball team defeated the Mountain State University Cougars in five games (30-20, 33-35, 30-27, 28-30, 15-11) to improve their record to 7-10, extend their season best winning streak to three games, and drop the Cougars to 20-10.


It was an exciting match from start to finish as the Royals were able to attack the Cougars out the gate, with senior Nikisha Arrington and freshman Precious Reese leading the team with 24 and 17 kills respectively and the Royals taking the game 30-20. The second game did not go as easy for the Royals as the Cougars were able to fight back and win the second game 35-33. The third game was a seesaw match as the Royals and Cougars traded the lead until the Royals were able to squeeze out the win 30-27. The fourth match was drama filled. The Royals lead the Cougars 26-22 and with their backs against the wall and facing elimination the Cougars fought back to take the game 30-28. The final game continued the excitement as the Cougars were up on the Royals 8-4 but the Royals showed patience and resilience and fought their way back to claim the deciding game 15-11.


Senior Megan Phillips led the team with 57 assists and tallied four service aces; Shellie Barnwell led the team with five service aces. Arrington and Dayna Sechrest registered five and three blocks respectively.


The Royals have a week off before they return to the court to face conference rival Webber International University at home on October 23 at 7 p.m.

Warner Southern Volleyball adds two wins under their belt this weekend against Florida Memorial and St. Thomas


Miami, Fla. --The Lady Royals (6-10, 4-6 FSC) beat Florida Memorial College Lions Friday 30-11, 30-19, 30-13.


Senior Megan Phillips lead the team with 5 five aces, 29 assists and 8 digs. Krystal Steele lead the Royals at the net with 12 kills and 5 blocks. Shannon Sterner, libero recorded 6 digs against Florida Memorial and Nikisha Arrington had 4 aces and 7 blocks for the game.


 Lady Royals beat St. Thomas Bobcats Saturday 30-28, 30-20, 13-30, 27-30, 15-12
Lady Royals came out on top in the first two games against the Bobcats, letting up in the next two games and coming back in the last game.
Game five started off with both teams going back to back but eventually the Royals took control and won.
 Royals Megan Phillips led the team in assists with 36. Nikisha Arrington led the Royals in kills with 12.


The Lady Royals next match is on Monday, October 15 at home against Mountain State University from West Virginia.

Royals Women Volleyball Suffer Heartbreaking Loss

LAKE WALES, Fla.- The women’s volleyball team lost a close match 2-3 (26-30, 19-30, 30-26, 30-28, 13-15) against Florida College on Tuesday, October 09, 2007.

Team leaders for kills came from Krystal Steele and Nikisha Arrington with 10 each. Arrington had six blocks followed by Steele adding five blocks on the night.

Leading the Royals in service aces were Shellie Barnwell with five and Megan Phillips with three. Phillips added 46 assists and 14 digs.

“Down the first two games, they dig a great job fighting back. Heartbreaking as it is to lose the last game by two points, we still did a great job fighting back,” said Head Coach Kevin Crawford.

The Royals look to bounce back on Friday, October 12, as they face conference opponent Florida Memorial University in Miami, Fla. at 7 p.m.

Royals’ Women’s Volleyball sweep Edward Waters College 3-0

Jacksonville, Fla. – In their second game of their road trip, the Royals swept the Edward Waters College Tigers (0-8) in three games (30-18, 30-21, 30-15) to improve their overall record to 4-9 and conference record to 2-6.

Junior Ashley Lange led the Royals with 11 kills and Nikisha Arrington and Krystle Steele both contributed 10 kills. The Royals’ defense kept the Tigers in check during the match, registering 61 digs throughout the match with Shannon Sterner leading the way with 12 digs and Arrington charting 10 digs to go with her 10 kills.

Megan Phillips, fourth in the FSC in assist continued to lead the team in assists, registering her third highest output of the season with 36 assists; she also contributed eight digs.

The Royals return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 9th as they face Florida College at 7 p.m at home.

Royals defeated by Eagles in four games

Daytona Beach, Fla. – In their second meeting of the season the Embry-Riddle Eagles (9-8, FSC: 5-3) defeated the Royals (3-9, FSC: 1-6) 3-1 (30-26, 28-30, 30-24, 30-22).

The Eagles built a 13-6 lead in game one, hitting hard from the start, but were unable to keep their energy going as the Royals tied the game at 16 aided by two service aces served by WSC's Shellie Barnwell. With the lead exchanging sides five additional times, the Eagles took a 20-19 lead and held on to capture game one.

WSC pulled out a game two victory despite an ERAU five-point lead late in the game. The Royals were able to capitalize on FSC leading attacker Nikisha Arrington's swing, as she charted two kills to tie the game at 28 and give WSC the push they needed to take the match. Arrington led the Royals with 17 kills and 4 service aces.

In game three, the Royals scored the first two points, but the Eagles came back taking the lead at 5-4 and held it for the rest of the game, winning 30-24.

The Royals took a 4-1 lead early in game four, but the Eagles marched forward with back-to-back kills. Jenni Nelsen increased the Eagle lead to 23-17 serving three service aces in four attempts, and was followed by kills from Corey Dobridnia and Alana Martinez in the middle. The game was ended on a service error by the Royals giving ERAU the match.

Megan Phillips posted 31 assists in the match; she also had 15 digs, and 3 service aces. Ashley Lange led all Royals with 25 digs. 

The Royals continue their road trip as they travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to face conference opponent Edward Waters College at 1 p.m.

Warner Southern’s Volleyball snaps losing skid

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Royals took a break in conference play to defeat the Florida Christian College Suns (3-10) in three straight games (30-12, 30-11, 30-15) on Tuesday, Oct. 2 to break their seven game losing streak and improve their record to 3-8.

Junior Krystle Steele led all Royals with eight kills and senior defense specialist Keisha Bagwell led the team with four digs. Shellie Barnwell contributed four kills while Megan Phillips led the team with 12 assists.

The Royals registered 20 service aces with Ashley Even leading the way with six aces and Steele with four.

The Royals return to action on Friday, Oct. 5 to face conference opponent Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, Fla. at 7 p.m.

Royals fall to SCAD in three

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Savannah College of Art and Design (10-5, 7-0) continued their dominance over the Royals (2-8, 1-5) as they defeated them in 3 straight games, 30-20, 30-17, and 30-17 on Friday, September 28.

Senior co-captains Nikisha Arrington and Shannon Sterner led the Royals in kills and digs respectively; Arrington tallied seven kills while Sterner totaled nine digs. Ashley Lange contributed four kills while Megan Phillips led the team with 16 assists.

The Royals attacked the Bees constantly throughout the game registering 110 kill attempts but the Bees’ staunch defense kept the Royals offense in check.

The Royals return to action Tuesday, October 2 against Florida Christian College in Kissimmee, Fla at 7 p.m.

Women’s Volleyball falls to Webber in five games

BABSON PARK, Fla. – In another heart wrenching loss, the Royals fell to Webber International University in five games to drop the Royals’ record to 2-7 and improve the Warriors’ record to 14-1.

The Warriors took the first game 30-26 totaling 14 kills to the Royals 8. However, the Royals retaliated to win the next two games with the same score of 30-27. FSC hitting percentage leader Niksha Arrington led the Royals with 17 kills.

The fourth game was not as kind to the Royals as the previous two as the Warriors were able to even up the games by defeating the Royals 30-24, forcing a game five.

The final game was as exciting as the entire match was as both teams saw the lead go back and forth. With a 14-12 lead by the Warriors the Royals were able to rally and tie the game up.  The two teams continued to go back and forth for the next four points until the Warriors’ Rachel Moore was able to get the kill to break the 16-16 tie.  Allison Hiett scored the final point for the Warriors, sealing the game at 18-16.

The Royals return to action on Friday, September 28 to face Savannah College of Art Design at home at 7 p.m.

Savannah College of Art and Design Sweeps Warner Southern College 3-0 in Women's Volleyball

SAVANNAH, Ga.  — The Savannah College of Art and Design volleyball team continue their perfection in Florida Sun Conference action as the No. 16-ranked Bees swept Warner Southern College 30-16, 30-13 and 30-24 Thursday (Sept. 20) evening at the St. Paul’s Activity Center.

SCAD improved to 8-5 overall and to 5-0 in the Florida Sun as the Bees have yet to drop a set so far this season in the conference. Warner Southern College fell to 2-6 and 1-3.

Nikisha Arrington led Warner Southern with eight digs and six kills while teammate Shannon Sterner added six digs. Ashley Lange contributed three kills while Megan Phillips led the Royals with 13 assists.

The Royals look to regroup and return to action when they face conference rival Webber International University in Babson Park, Fla. on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Megan Phillips’ triple double not enough in Warner Southern’s loss to Polk County rival Southeastern University

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Senior setter Megan Phillips logged a triple double in last night’s (Tuesday, Sept.18) thrilling match against Southeastern University (15-5). Phillips posted 58 assists, 10 blocks and 10 digs in the five game loss against the Fire (25-30, 30-22, 24-30, 30-27, 13-15).

The Royals (2-5) led by Phillips and Nikisha Arrington with 30 kills played tough against the Flame the entire match trading games until losing in the heart wrenching final game 13-15.

Warner Southern looks to snap its four game losing streak as it travels to face conference foe Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga. on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.

Royals women’s volleyball lose both in Tri-Match with Northwood and Flagler College

West Palm Beach, Fla. – Senior captain Nikisha Arrington led the Royals with nine attacks in the conference loss to Northwood University Seahawks (17-30, 24-30, 24-30) on Saturday, September 15. Arrington tied Dayna Sechrest to lead the team with seven kills in the second game of the tri-match, a loss against NCAA Division II Flagler College Saints (13-30, 16-30, 27-30).

The Royals could not defend against the attacking of the Seahawks’ Vivian Perez with her team leading 18 kills in the first match. In the second match, senior captain Shannon Sterner led the team defensively with 14 digs against the Saints but that was not enough to hold them off as they extended the Royals’ losing streak to three and drop their record to 2-4.

The Royals hope to end their losing streak on Tuesday, September 18 as they play host to Southeastern University.

Warner Southern Women’s Volleyball fall to Florida College in Three

Temple Terrace, Fla - Warner Southern lost to the Florida College Falcons in three games (18-30, 19-30, 34-32), Tuesday September 11, 2007.
Krystle Steele led the Lady Royals defensively at the net with 4 solo blocks. While offensively, Nikisha Arrington put up 12 kills. Ashley Even had 18 assists and 14 digs for the night.
No matter what the Royals did, the Falcons were there to counterattack, “they are a very well coached team with good volleyball players,” said Coach Kevin Crawford.

The Royals return to action on Saturday in a dual match against Flagler College and Northwood University in West Palm Beach, Fla. on Saturday September 15, 2007.

Royals Women’s Volleyball Team defeats Edward Waters College


LAKE WALES, Fla.-  The Warner Southern Women’s Volleyball team defeated Edward Waters College 3-0 (30-14, 30-11, 30-20) on Saturday, September 08, 2007.


The win came as a true team effort as each player participated in the match. The coaching staff was pleased with how well the players responded after facing a conference loss the night before. 


The Volleyball team is back on the court Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Florida College.

Warner Southern Women’s Volleyball team suffers loss Friday at home against Embry-Riddle University

LAKE WALES, Fla.- Warner Southern lost their first conference match of the season (30-26, 24-30, 14-30, 30-28, 9-15), Friday, September 7, 2007.

 
The Coaching staff felt like the Lady Royals fought a good fight with a big front row and good defense. Senior Nikisha Arrington posted 16 kills. And Senior Krystle Steele had 11 kills. Defensively Senior Libero Shannon Sterner recorded 18 digs. Warner Southern Freshman Ashley Even put up 22 assists and 18 digs. Senior Megan Phillips led the team in aces with 4.


“I’m very pleased with the way the team came together tonight, with good communication and hustle. There was a lot of encouragement coming from the seniors to the freshman thrown into this game, which made them fit right in. It is a good sign for future games,” said Assistant Coach Mindy Crawford.


The Lady Royals next match is Saturday September 8, 2007 against Edward Water College at home.

Women's JV Volleyball

Women’s JV Volleyball team falls to Polk Community College

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Women’s JV Volleyball was defeated last night against Polk Community College in 3 straight matches (13-30, 24-30, 22-30). The Royals showed sings of resiliency in the second and third match, led my sophomores Kristy Mentzer and Precious Resse the Royals hung with PCC for most of the second and third matches, even leading PCC during parts of the third match.

Head Coach Mindy Crawford was optimistic about the play from her team. “It was a great opportunity for the young girls to get an opportunity to play. Despite the loss, they played well and with enthusiasm,” said Crawford.

The JV team sees action again at South Florida Community College in Avon Park, Fla. on Saturday, September 29.

Royals Defeat the Suns in Season Opener

LAKE WALES, Fla- The Warner Southern Volleyball team defeated Florida Christian College Saturday, September 01, 2007 in three straight games (30-8, 30-4, 30-25).  Team leaders in kills for the game include Nikisha Arrington, with 11, and Krystle Steele, with 10.  Ashley Lange led the Royals in service aces with 7 followed by Dayna Sechrest with 6. Megan Phillips and Ashley Even each had 18 assists.


The Women's Volleyball team's next match is at home Friday, September 7, 2007 against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Royals Play a Pre-season Intersquad Game

LAKE WALES, Fla- The Women’s Volleyball team played an exhibition inter-squad game on Wednesday, August 29, 2007. Coach Kevin Crawford wants his team to improve upon their passing to allow for a faster offense with quicker attacks and to avoid double blockers.
“We’re a team built around speed. We would compare to a basketball team that likes to run a lot of fast-breaks,” said Coach Crawford.
Coach Crawford feels Precious Reese, Ashley Lange, and Jordan Krause played exceptionally well.

The Women’s Volleyball team is back on the court at Saturday, September 1, 2007 vs. Florida Christian College at 1:00 in the Turner Athletic Center.
