Habitat for Humanity, in partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service, provides hundreds of service opportunities for persons of diverse ages and backgrounds. CNCS, an integral part of USA Freedom Corps, supports dynamic volunteer service programs such as AmeriCorps*State/National, AmeriCorps*VISTA, AmeriCorps*NCCC and Senior Corps. President Bush has called for Americans to serve our neighbors and our nation, and in partnership with CNCS Habitat for Humanity offers a wide variety of service opportunities.
Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps
AmeriCorps members serve an 11- month term constructing houses with a local affiliate. While in service, AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance and insurance. An education award is granted upon completion of a successful term of service. Opportunities are available to adults age 18 or older who possess a high school diploma or GED. Previous construction, community service and/or leadership experience is helpful but not required for acceptance into this program. Programs are recruiting now and have limited positions available, apply today!
Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps*VISTA
Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps*VISTA programs provide challenging opportunities to individuals interested in helping low-income families achieve their dream of a decent, affordable home. VISTA members come from diverse backgrounds to serve a one-year term helping to build the capacity of a local Habitat affiliate. Members receive a monthly living allowance, health insurance, childcare (depending on eligibility and availability) and their choice of a $1,200 stipend or a $4,725 education award upon successful term completion.
Seniors for Habitat for Humanity
Seniors for Habitat for Humanity is an initiative designed to engage senior volunteers (age 55 and up) in meaningful activities that enable Habitat affiliates to strengthen their organizational capacity, in turn increasing house production. Volunteers serve in various capacities, such as board development, fund raising, family support, site selection, media or community relations, education, house repair or construction. Schedules are flexible.
Habitat for Humanity Summer AmeriCorps
Summer AmeriCorps is an AmeriCorps*Education Awards program that provides a $1,000 education award in exchange for 300 hours of service. This program may especially appeal to young men and women enjoying summer break from college. Dates of service vary, according to the Habitat affiliate a participant chooses to enroll with, but all programs begin after May 15 and end by September 7. NOTICE: Due to a shortfall of federal funding, we will not have a Summer AmeriCorps program this summer. We are hopeful that we will be able to reinstate the program for the summer of 2004.
Habitat for Humanity is proud of its partnership with AmeriCorps*National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), a 10-month residential national service program for young women and men between the ages of 18 and 24. AmeriCorps*NCCC members serve on teams that meet community needs across the country, and each year some of those teams spend weeks serving with Habitat affiliates to help build affordable housing with people in need of decent shelter. Thanks for your interest in our effort to provide national service opportunities for people wanting to help to make safe, affordable housing a reality for families in need.
