Direct Loan Forms

The following forms are for the use of Distance Education Students and Faculty of Warner Southern College:

Direct Loan Policies

This service is restricted to currently registered Warner Southern College Distance Education Students who are not in a Lake Wales Group.

If we own an item, we will loan that item to you if it is an item generally circulated. Students will be responsible for returning any borrowed item(s) that are not photocopied. All journal articles will be photocopied and mailed/faxed directly to the student.

IMPORTANT: Please check the online public access catalog, http://opac.warner.edu, to verify library holdings before submitting a loan request. Fill out the appropriate electronic request form as fully as possible. A separate form should be used for each item.

Time to Fill Request
Students should expect delivery to take 3 to 5 business days from the time the LRC receives the request.

Direct Loan Fees
Students will be responsible for all postal costs. Postal costs will be charged to the student based on applicable postal rates. Current costs to deliver an average book one way, with a three day delivery, is running around $8 to $10. Students will be responsible for returning the item at their own expense by the due date.

Notification
Users will be notified by electronic mail when a requested item has been mailed or if there are any problems in filling a request (For this reason, the LRC will not process a request without a valid e-mail address).

Loan Period
Books are loaned for a two week period. Renewals can be made by e-mail (lrc-directloan@warner.edu) or phone (863-638-7235), unless the book(s) are needed by another patron. Facsimiles of journal articles will be faxed or sent by regular mail and do not have to be returned.

Direct Loan Alternatives
Students can always check local public and academic libraries to see if materials can be obtained from those locations. The local public library will often provide interlibrary loan services for its members free of charge or for a nominal fee. Some academic libraries will also let outside students use materials within their library during regular operating hours but do not allow materials to be checked out. Students should also search the Internet for possible materials as well as use the online services provided by the LRC.

Copyright Restrictions
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
