The College accepts the principle that learning as the result of experience may be recognized for credit in place of regular courses requiring attendance and examinations. The Registrar's Office manages a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) program. Students who believe that some of their job or life experiences have given them college level academic learning may obtain necessary information from the Registrar's Office about how to petition for credit. Completed petitions are forwarded to the appropriate department faculty members for review and recommendation. Students are notified in writing of decisions regarding their petitions for credit.

Warner Southern awards credit for military training and other non-college sponsored learning activities (for example, Professional & Technical Training) according to recommendations of the American Council of Education and PONSI.

Credits awarded for professional experience or military training are so noted on the student's transcript. Grades and quality points are not given. A maximum of 30 semester credit hours may be awarded through PLA, military training or non-college sponsored learning, and a maximum of 45 semester credit hours may be awarded for PLA and CLEP combined.
