  • Does the school provide laptops for students?
    • We currently do not provide laptops for each student. However, we allow students to connect their personal laptops to our student wireless network (RoyalAir) and we also have 4 computer lab areas with a total of over 60 computers (2 Windows labs and 2 MAC labs).
  • Is there any requirements with respect to operating systems?
    1. The only requirement that we have is for computers that connect to our wireless network.
      • We require either Windows XP, Vista, or MAC OS X in order to connect to our wireless network.   In any case, if there is a task that your  chosen computer cannot perform, we have full, up to date computer labs that have full internet access and all the software needed to complete course work
  • What are your requirement with respect to virus/spyware scanners? Are these provided for students?
    • We require anti-virus software to be installed on all computers that are connected to our student wireless network.  The anti-virus program must be one of the following:
      • AVAST
      • Computer Associates eTrust
      • Fortinet Fortclient
      • Grisoft AVG (Free)
      • Kaspersky Labs Internet Security
      • McAfee VirusScan
      • Microsoft Windows Live One Care
      • Panda Software ClientShield
      • Sophos
      • Symantec Antivirus
      • TrendMicro PC-cillin Internet Security
      • Antivirus not required on MACs
  • Do you have for purchase student versions of Microsoft office and if so what do they cost?
  • What repair services do you offer?
    • Currently, there are no official repair services offered to student personal computers. However, we gladly look at any computer that is having a problem, to see if the issue is a simple one we may resolve quickly. If the problem requires extensive work or time, there are at least two technicians here in our IT office that would be glad to help repair the computer for an hourly fee, which we keep steeply inexpensive. It’s  important to us that our students have working computers, and in many cases, if the issue is covered by warranty, we will be glad to call your warranty service and handle the exchange for your – a lot of times that process can be confusing or difficult for people, and it tends to go more smoothly when a technician calls in for the owner.
  • Which (if any) manufactures do you have affiliations with?
(e.g. if i have a Lenovo laptop would work done on it by you be covered by my warranty?)
    • We currently do not have the licensing or authority to do manual work on personal computers covered by warranty, other than our own business machines. If we were to open your computer, the warranty would be void, just the same as if you were to open it yourself. Software is usually a different issue, and is usually easier to handle in our office, in person, than with a technician over the phone, and we’d gladly offer any help we can, installing, uninstalling, or changing any settings you like, so long as it does not void the warranty.
  • Is internet access in the dorms provided by wired Ethernet, wireless Ethernet, or both?
    • Wireless
  • What is the wireless coverage in the academic buildings?
    • We have full coverage on every building on campus.
  • Do students have network storage and can it be mapped to their computer from their dorm?
        1. At this time, there is no network storage in place for students to use.
  • What is the schools total internet bandwidth, and is there bandwidth usage caps on individuals?
    • Currently, we have one T1 line that is for the student network, completely separate from our corporate network. It allows a total bandwidth of 1.5Mbps up and down. There is no current throttling system in place
