Wireless instructions for Windows XP:

Before you start, you should have read and signed the Wireless Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) available in the ITS department. Agreement with the AUP is mandatory for the granting of a username and password.
If this is the first time your computer will be connected to RoyalAir, you need to bring it by ITS. The same applies for new wireless cards. These items must be entered into our database in order to work.

1. Right click on the wireless icon and select Open Network Connections. | |

2. Right click on your wireless card and select Properties. Make sure you select your wireless adaptor and not another. |

3. You can safely uncheck Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. These services are unnecessary and pose a possible security risk to you. |

4. Scroll down until you see Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Double click it. |

5. Make sure that Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are both selected. Click OK. |

6. Select the Wireless Networks tab. Check Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. Click Add. If you see RoyalAir listed under Preferred networks, double click it instead of Add. |

7. If you clicked Add in the previous step, type RoyalAir in the Network name (SSID) box. Select WPA for Network Authentication. This is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network should be unchecked. Select the Authentication tab. |

8. Select Protected EAP (PEAP) for the EAP type. Deselect Authenticate as computer when computer information is available. Click Properties. |

9. Uncheck Validate server certificate. Click Configure. |

10. Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any). Click OK. Also click OK for any remaining dialog boxes. |

11. In a few moments, you will see a balloon message as shown above. Click on it. If you don’t see the message shown above, right click the wireless icon in the taskbar and select View Available Wireless Networks. |

12. Highlight RoyalAir and select connect. |

13. Click on the message that says: Click here to select a certificate or other credentials for connection to the network RoyalAir. |

14. Input the username and password given to you by the ITS department. Leave Logon domain blank. Click OK. |

You should now see that RoyalAir is connected. If it doesn’t work, make sure you followed the steps exactly as shown in this guide. Pay close attention to the screenshots and make sure you don’t have any extra options selected. If it still doesn’t work, bring your laptop to the ITS department in Williams Hall. |
