Computer and network usage will conform to Warner Southern College policies and to federal, state, and local statutes. Users will cooperate with the computer network manager, computer technicians, lab assistants, and other personnel involved with the installation and service of hardware, software, servers, and Internet access.
The computer equipment and software must be used as installed. Users are not permitted to delete, add to, or modify the installed hardware or software. The computer operator is liable for any damages to any workstation’s hardware or software as well as for any illegal or unethical acts performed. This is not limited to physical damage or vandalism.
All software and institutional data files are deemed to be the property of Warner Southern College. Tampering with local or remote computer files and/or the commitment of illegal activities or ethical violation of acceptable Internet use will result in loss of computer privileges and possible other action(s) deemed appropriate. Computer and network usage will be limited to intended academic activities, primarily designed for course work assignments and non-commercial personal activities. No personal software is allowed without permission of the network administrator.
Computer and network usage will usually be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Users must be good stewards though, recognizing the rights and needs of others when using computer and network resources. Excessive use by one person at the exclusion of others, regardless of the task, constitutes inappropriate use.
Users will be expected to use the computers and network resources, including the Internet primarily for research purposes and course assignments. Because of limited access, a user engaging in non-academic use of resources will be asked to relinquish the workstation to allow another access to resources for academic needs.
Fair-use guidelines are administered by the computer network manager, computer technicians, lab assistants, or other college officials. The administration of Warner Southern College reserves the right to regulate the use of computers and network resources. Access and use will change to meet the needs of the institution and the people who use these resources. Users who have not upheld the letter and spirit of this general usage statement will be restricted from the use of computer and network resources. The administration also reserves the right to use filtering software should the need arise.
