WarnerWire - Excel's Default File Location

Once everyone has made the switch to using his/her H:\ drive and S:\ drive for storing documents and has cleaned out these files from "My Documents," we will make Word and Excel open to your H:\ drive automatically. Until then, you may make the change yourself with Word and Excel. Here is the process for doing so in Excel. Click here for the process for Word.

  1. Open Microsoft Word
  2. Click on the Tools menu
  3. Click on the Options selection.
  4. Click on the General tab. You will see a field called "Default File Location." Replace the contents of that field with " H:\ " (do not type the quotes). It will look like the picture below.
  5. Click "OK."
  6. Now, when you open Excel and go to open or save a file, it will automatically pull up your H:\ drive.
