Central file storage on the WarnerWire network is the term for saving files to the network. There are central servers that everyone may save their data to.
Benefits of saving files to the network:
- Network servers are backed up daily
- On department / team shared folders, your whole department or team can view the files and folders
- If your computer crashes or is affected by lightning, your data is safe on our servers
- If you log onto a different computer, you still have access to the data saved on the servers
- If you get a new computer, setup time goes from the usual 3 hours to 1/2 hour
How you can use central file storage
- When your department is set up for central file storage, you will see an H:\ drive and an S:\ drive in "My Computer". If you double-click on "My Computer" you will see them listed.
- H:\ will be followed by your network user name
(for Mark Thomas, it reads H:\ 'thomasmw')
- H:\ is your own personal storage area on the network. Only you have access to this area (besides network administrators who must manage the servers). Anything that you would normally put in My Documents, you will now put in this folder if you want it backed up.
- S:\ will be followed by the word 'Share'
- S:\ is the central area for departments and teams. you will only see your department's folder inside S:\ as well as any teams that you are on that have shared folders.
- When you open Word or Excel, then go to open or save a file, you can set it to automatically look in your H:\ drive (be default, it always looks in "My Documents").

- You will still be able to store files in "My Documents." You will use "My Documents" for items that are of a personal nature, not work related, and that will not be backed up. If your computer crashes or we replace your computer with an upgrade, we will not be responsible for retreiving your "My Documents" so you will need to back this up on your own (a thumb-drive is a good solution for this). Certain exceptions will be made for those who have a work purpose for the use of "My Documents" not dicussed here.
