Eagles Can a SOAR Student be employed?
A student’s primary responsibility is to study, and employment off campus is discouraged. However, on campus, part-time employment may be discussed on an individual basis with the Director of the ASC.

How long will a student be in the SOAR Program?
A student will be in the program until the completion of an A.A. Degree form WSC, which typically takes 2-3 years.

Is each SOAR Student required to take developmental courses in English, Reading, and Mathematics?
No. High school GPA, SAT or ACT scores combined with class placement testing, such as Accuplacer, comprise the criteria for proper class placement in English, Reading, and Mathematics.

When will the student know his/her class placement?
The student will be notified by his/her advisor during the pre-registration advisory meeting.

What are developmental course?
These are refresher courses in English, Reading, and Mathematics, and are offered to students who demonstrate a deficiency in any of these areas. Descriptions of specific courses can be found in the WSC Catalog. It is important to note that, although these classes are necessary to prepare some students for college level work, they do not count as required credit hours for graduation.

What happens if the student’s grades fall below a “C” level in any course?
In the event that a student receives a mid-term report of a “D” or “F” in any given course, the student will be responsible for additional study time in the ASC equivalent to the number of course hours in question. Said hours are to be focused on the subject in which the student has earned the grade.

Can a SOAR student represent WSC at public functions involving extra-curricular activities, such as sports or music?
No. During each of the first two semesters of full-time enrollment, the student must establish at least a 2.0 GPA to qualify for participation at the beginning of the second year providing he/she continues to meet the eligibility requirements for said activity.
