Warner University Men’s Basketball team is heading to Branson, Mo. today, to face off in the 2016 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship after their big Sun Conference win last Tuesday night against Keiser University.

The Sun Conference Tournament was already off to a great start as five of our players brought home awards at the 2016 Sun Conference Tournament banquet on February 28.

Warren Hall received Sun Conference Player of the Year, as well as, First Team All-Conference. Eddie Delegal was also awarded First Team All-Conference, and received All-Defense Team. Sophomores AJ Lamb, Hunter Jump, and Esteve Metayer took All-Academic Team, giving Warner the most wins in this category.

With falling short twice during the regular season to Keiser University, our men had one thing in mind going into the championship game: leave it all on the court.

“We were fired up,” said Hall. “We’ve been doubted the whole season, so now it was time to prove to everybody we could do it.”

The heated Royals closed out the Seahawks 80-55, with Delegal scoring his career high of 38 points, and earning the title of Tournament MVP.

“The team did what we needed to do,” said Delegal. “We went with the plan Coach Hanrahan gave us and we never looked back.”

The men will now face hosting team, College of the Ozarks, on March 9 at 8 p.m.

“They’re a tough team, and it will be a great atmosphere,” said Head Coach Sean Hanrahan. “Our men have worked hard all season. They are ready for this.”

During the trip, the men will be running a Special Olympics clinic while they are there. The event will consist of 40-60 young Special Olympic athletes.

“It’s a great event that I have done in the past. It will be a blast,” said Hanrahan.
