Social Work Month in March is a time to celebrate the great profession of social work.

Warner University Social Work Club is helping celebrate this year’s Social Work Month with the theme “Social Workers are Essential” to highlight the invaluable contributions social workers make in our society.

The campaign will also inform the public, policymakers, and legislators about the way the nation’s social workers each day meet people where they are and help them live to their fullest potential.

The Social Work department at WU is hosting its Essential Expo on Thursday March 4th, where agencies will feature their internship, employment and volunteer opportunities open to all related fields.

Warner will also partner with the local NASW unit to celebrate and provide tools to promote the profession.

During the Coronavirus pandemic social workers have also been on the frontlines along with doctors, nurses, grocery store staff and other essential employees. For instance, social workers are helping families affected by this pandemic by providing the services they need to recover once they return to their families and communities.

Social work educators, including our own social work professors Dr. April Steen, LCSW and Dr. Winnifred Whittaker are helping the next generation of social workers prepare to rise to challenges that our current professionals are facing in today’s situation.

“Social workers often are unsung heroes, but they play an essential role in helping people from all walks of life and backgrounds to live life to the fullest. During social work month we hope you will learn more about this amazing profession, say a kind word to the social workers in your lives, and advocate for policies and legislation that benefit the profession and the populations they serve.” -Dr. April Steen

In addition to providing  opportunities for students here on campus, alums and social workers located in the area are more than welcome to contact Dr. Steen to increase their involvement with the program.
